SCRIPTURE FOCUS
Romans 8:26 - And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. (NLT)
PRAYER FOCUS
Let’s admit it. Sometimes when we are facing an obstacle, we just do not know what we should pray. Our Scripture focus for today encourages us that the Holy Spirit actually prays for us! Paul also writes that the Holy Spirit will help us in those areas we have weaknesses. In those areas in which we do not have strength, the Holy Spirit is there to help us!
In those times in which we do not know how to pray, the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us! The Greek word Paul uses here is a particularly long one that means, “to take hold together against” some opposition. Therefore, when we are confronted with conflict, we and the Holy Spirit take hold together to stand against this resistance.
Sometimes this intercession takes the form of groanings; sometimes this intercession is praying in tongues – or praying in the Spirit (1 Cor. 14:15). What a wonderful gift we have - to pray God’s perfect will in those circumstances that we do not know what His will is! What a comfort to know that we do not have to have complete understanding to pray according to God’s will!
RESPONSE
Often, praying in the Spirit is forgotten as an option in our prayer time. Today, let’s spend time praying in tongues and allowing the Holy Spirit to pray His perfect will through us! If you do not yet pray in tongues, ask the Father to give you the promised Baptism of the Holy Spirit as described in Acts 2. He knows how to give good gifts!
