Daily Devo - Day 5

SCRIPTURE FOCUS

Psalm 91:1-2 - He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

PRAYER FOCUS

There is no denying that we live in perilous times. Terrorism, epidemics, natural disasters – these all have the potential of bringing us into fear; however, it is vital that we not allow fear to take over our hearts. Our Scripture focus for today reminds us that there is a secret place in which we can take refuge from frightening circumstances.

Where is this secret place of the Most High and how does one get there? This secret place is not a physical, geographical location where we hunker down and pull the covers over our heads. Jesus taught us in John 15 to “abide in me and I will abide in you” (John 15:4). This secret place is the LORD Jesus Himself! David had a glimpse of this when he wrote, “You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance” (Psalm 32:7 ESV). His response was to declare the truth of the LORD’s deliverance and protection.

For the New Testament believer, we are in Christ Himself. This is a reality, not just a philosophical concept. The secret place in which we abide is Christ. Even amid disturbing circumstances, we can anchor our lives on this truth. In Christ, we are in the safest hiding place that we could ever be.

RESPONSE

Today let’s make our prayer focus a declaration of faith and ask the LORD to give us a greater revelation of what it means to be “in Christ.” Let’s meditate on the protection that Jesus provides and thank Him for it.
